There are so many different names associated with laptops these days, in fact the word laptop is more of a catch-all word that describes just about every mobile computer, whether its a netbook or a mini laptop. This has created a lot of confusion about the difference between the different classifications of laptops. For instance, what is the difference between a mini laptop and an ultraportable? Essentially there is no difference, often times the two are interchangable. However, for the sake of making a distinctions, I would argue that the size, application and computing power associated with each is the difference. Note that some differences are almost negligible. I would say that there are about four groups of laptops: full-sized laptops, standard laptops or notebooks, mini-laptops (also known as subnotebooks or ultraportables), and netbooks.
Full Size Laptop Rentals are the largest laptops. They get their name from the fact that they have ‘full-size’ keyboards, where as smaller laptops have no number pad and several other buttons are arranged differently. Full-sized laptops are better for those who are looking for computing power that is comparable to a desktop, while still maintaining mobility. Additionally, they have larger screens (up to 18.6″) than the other laptop options, which is better for watching videos and general entertainment.
Notebook rentals (or standard laptop) generally range between 12″ and 14″, but can go as small as 6.4″ (mini laptops, subnotebooks, ultraportables). They are great for anyone who travels, especially for business trips and vacations. Notebooks and especially mini laptops are not designed (but can be upgraded) for gaming, video editing or any intensive computing, they are usually only used for simple tasks like checking email, browsing the internet, and word processing. Most traveling businessmen do not need anything with serious power, but need something to keep them connected, that is when a Notebook Rental is ideal. Additionally, notebooks have longer battery lives, so if mobility is your concern then a Notebook Rental may be a better solution than a laptop.
Netbook Rentals offer even more mobility and less computing than a notebook. They are even smaller (can be below 5″) and more portable than a notebook but are designed specifically for internet browsing, email and wireless communication. For these reasons, anyone looking to do anything more than simple applications (think smartphone), then a netbook rental is not for you. Netbooks are especially focused towards “cloud” users, because storing data on your netbook is not realistic.
Depending on your need, consider a Notebook Rental, Laptop Rental, Mini Laptop Rental or Netbook Rental for your next vacation or out-of-town meeting. RentOurLaptops also offers Tablet PC Rentals and iPad Rentals.
