At CES in January, Lenovo was stealing the show with their brand new LaVie Z laptops. These laptops are the result of a collaboration with NEC, and are super light. Everyone in the tech world is talking about them because they are a real competitor to the Apple MacBook and, best of all, they are now available to order. The new laptops from Lenovo are 0.7 inches thick, slightly thicker than the 0.52 inch MacBook. When you put them on a scale though, you see that the Lenovo is actually just bigger in size, actually weighing less than the MacBook. I also don’t think that the extraRead More →

When it comes to computers and laptops a lot of people look to the ports. When a new device comes out customers immediately want to know what types of ports the device has and how many. That’s what makes the newest MacBook such a curious little thing. It only has two ports. There is a port on the left for USB-C power, data and display connectivity and then a 3.5mm stereo headphone jack on the right that allows connectivity with any standard audio gear. But what does this mean? Well for starters it means that accessory makers will be battling each other harder than everRead More →

A government officer from Taiwan is warning local PC vendors of a new Apple patent for the MacBook Air that could be used in legal action in an attempt to stop the sales of Ultrabooks from competitive manufacturers. Apple has already tried this tactic on Samsung, attempting to halt sales of the company’s Galaxy Tab 10.1 and Galaxy Nexus smartphone. In both cases Apple has successfully halted sales of the devices in the United States. The Cupertino company received a U.S. patent last month for the exterior wedge-like design of its MacBook Air devices. The intellectual property office of Taiwan’s Ministry of Economic Affairs, though,Read More →

Apple has been molding its operating system to support higher resolutions, according to recent reports, which makes the rumors about the next generation of MacBooks having the same retina display that the new generation of the iPad has seem a little more likely. The 10.7.4 update for OS X that was recently released had some hidden changes that indicated that Apple is about to release something big. It has already been reported by Apple Insider that the icon for the built-in TextEdit application’s highest quality version has been increased to 1,024 x 1,024, which is double the 512 x 512 that it used to be.Read More →

Ultrabooks, the super-slim notebook computers designed around an Intel core and set to dethrone Apple’s MacBook, are seen as a very successful and productive market by many in the tech industry. However, AMD doesn’t think too highly of the Ultrabook brand and is reportedly planning to introduce its very own super-slim netbooks powered by the company’s A Series Trinity APUs. AMD is planning on offering better prices on these devices compared to the products released by Apple and other companies, which will subsequently start a price war in the world of ultra-thin, ultra-portable notebook computers. AMD is currently looking at a price of around $500, theRead More →

Lots of talk has been circulating around Asus’ first ultrabook, the company’s response to the MacBook series of laptops from Apple. But one thing that hasn’t been talked about is the release date, until now. Asus will begin selling its Intel-branded ultrabook with the release of its UX21 ultrathin laptop on October 11, 2011. News of this release date first surfaced when a fancy graphic appeared on the Asus UX series landing page on Monday. The graphic promised a launch event that is supposed to take place in New York City on the 11th. Like I said before, ultrabooks are Intel’s answer to Apple’s highlyRead More →

So ever since the 2011 MacBook Pro came out, people have been complaining about a number of issues that they seem to be experiencing. Just because the device is labeled “Pro” doesn’t mean that it is perfect. The device did get off to a rocky start with some users experiencing issues when outputting video through the Thunderbolt port to their Cinema Displays. Other users experienced freezing issues if their processing loads got too heavy. Read More →

No one knows exactly how Apple will redesign the new MacBook Air, but there are many speculations. The best way to decide what may be different about the new MacBook is to look at the laptops competition and see where it might be able to improve. Now the design is something that is going to be difficult to improve. The first design was so good that Apple didn’t change it for its second generation. The aluminum enclosure of the Air set a trend that all MacBook Pros and many other PC makers soon followed. The razor-thin Air does provide very little room for ports andRead More →

When the polycarbonate, unibody MacBook was first released by Apple, many people were turned away from it. It wasn’t that the laptop itself was horrible, despite a few shortcomings. The problem many people had with it was that device itself didn’t seem to warrant a $999 price tag. Well good news, for some of you out there, has just been seen on Apple’s website. The unibody MacBook has just seen a price drop to $728. But there is a catch. The $728 price is only available to students and educators and for a limited time only. The MacBook is a good laptop all around. ItRead More →
